BHUTAN IN 2008
After several centuries of
divided rule by various influential families, His Majesty, the first
King Gongsar Ugyen Wangchuck unified Bhutan under the name of "Drukyul–The
Land of the Thunder Dragon” in the year 1907. The year 2007 was to
be marked as the 100 years of monarchy in Bhutan but as the year
2007 is considered as inauspicious year according to the Bhutanese
calendar, it will be only in 2008 that Bhutan will celebrate the 100
years of Monarchy. Many festivals and much revelry have been planned
to celebrate this momentous occasion. Visitors to the Kingdom in
2008 will be given a unique opportunity to experience the real
Bhutan through the Centenary maxim of “Meet the Bhutanese”. Visitors
will be given the chance to immerse themselves into the soul of
Bhutan through things such as the opening of areas normally closed
to tourists, and the development of specialty tour programs.
Its is also in 2008, that
Bhutan’s Fifth King Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchuck, would
be formally and celebratory enthroned as the fifth King of Bhutan.
Though our Formal king handed over the post to his beloved son in
late December of 2006, it is only in 2008, where the formal
celebration of enthronement will take place, in which a year long
celebration will be held. (Though the exact enthronement date is
unknown, but only the year of celebration).
2008 has a immense reason for
all the Bhutanese, for if you visit Bhutan in 2008, you will see the
change in form of Government . It was the wise decision of our
Fourth King during one of the National Assembly, that Bhutan’s
Government to be changed into Democratic from Monarchy. Bhutanese
now, will rule the country with their elected ruler.
For those yet to experience the
magic that is the Kingdom of Bhutan, 2008 presents the perfect
opportunity. Contact us for more enquiry.
