Day 01: Arrive – Phuntsholing
You will be arriving at Phuntsholing from Darjeeling/Sikkim/Bagdora Airport (West Bengal-India) Our representative from Bhutan Travel connection will meet you at the Hotel in Phuntsholing.
Day 02: Phuntsholing-Thimphu
Phuntsholing is a border town on the southern foothills of Bhutan and main gate of Bhutan which is at an elevation of 300 m above sea level. Thimphu is approximately 175 Kms (6 hours) away from Phuntsholing and lunch will be at Bunakha. En-Route one will have spectacular view of northern plains of India while negotiating the uphill climb to Thimphu). Thimphu is the (Modern Capital of Bhutan) with an estimated population about 70,000 people. Check into hotel and overnight hotel Thimphu.
Day 03: Thimphu-Punakha/Wangdi
The drive to Punakha will take approximately 3 hours. En-Route Dochula Pass (3050 meters above sea level) to get a fine view of the Himalayan range if weather permits and also cup of tea & coffee at the café at Dochula. After noon Visit Punakha Dzong builds in 1637 by Shabdrung Ngwang Namgyel and also winter residence of the monk body for 6 months. It is one of the most beautiful Dzong in Bhutan and also ancient capital of Bhutan. If time permits, visit Chimmi Lhakhang (short walk of about half an hour through paddy fields to get to Chimmi Lhakhang – Monastery dedicated to Lama Drukpa Kinley, Divine Mad man). Evening free time to walk and overnight Punakha.
Day 04: Wangdi-Bumthang
It is a long drive to Bumthang crossing two passes viz. Pelela and Yotongla. One will also pass the magnificent stupa of Chendebji on the way. Chendebji stupa is similar to the one at Boudhnath in Nepal. From Chendebji you will arrive Trongsa valley in about an hour where you will see the largest Dzong in Bhutan. Overnight at Bumthang.
Day 05: Bumthang
Bumthang valley is one of the most hallowed valleys in the Kingdom and countless legends surround the area. This is the place where Guru Rimpoche first visited in 7th century. The present Royal family traces their ancestry back to the famous saint, Pemalingpa, which was from this valley. Sight seeing includes visit to Kurje Lhakhang (where the saint Padsambhava subdued a local demon and left his body imprint on a rock), Jampel lhakhang which was built in 7th century, then Jakar dzong (the fortress of white bird) built in 17th century by Tenzin Rabgay (the fourth Desi or the temporal ruler), Tamshing lhakhang built in 1501 by terton Pema Lingpa (the religious treasures discoverer). Then visit kunchosum lhakhang and “Meebertsho” (the flaming lake) in fact it is a gorge where the river runs through but the legend has it that Pema Lingpa discovered religious text from this lake. Other good places to visit are the cheese factory. Evening free time to walk and stroll around the town and overnight hotel.
Day 06: Bumthang-Wangdi/Punakha
Now we will be returning back from central to the Western Bhutan En-route visit Phobjikha valley, Phobjikha is part of conservation area with in Black Mountain National Park. It is the winter home of migratory Black Necked Crane. Gangtey is the name of the Monastery that sits on top of a conical hill in the middle of the valley. It is also one of the oldest and largest monasteries in western parts of Bhutan. Due to conservation effort, there is no electricity in the valley and lunch will be serving on the way. Again continue drive to Punakha. Overnight at hotel Punakha.
Day 07: Wangdi-Paro
The drive from Wangdi to Paro will take approximately 4 and 1/2 hours. Afternoon sightseeing around the Paro valley includes visit to National Museum (Ta dzong), the Rinpung Dzong, and the Kichu Lhakhang one of the oldest monasteries in Bhutan. Evening free time to stroll around Paro town and overnight Paro.
Day 08: Paro
Drive to north of the valley and embark on a short trek to Taktsang Monastery (Popularly known as Tiger’s Nest). For the Bhutanese or Buddhist, it is a secret pilgrimage site for the Buddhist World. The Taktsang monastery clings, on seemingly impossible sheer, vertical cliff at 9680ft. The steep uphill hike to Taktsang, take between more than 2 hours to get to the view point. (Ponies are provided on request to ride up till the tea house). Again walk back down hill till the bus stop and drive to Drukgyal Dzong (the victory fortress) which is now in ruins. It is about 16 Kms away from Paro town. On a clear day one can get a breath-taking view of Mt. Jhomolhari while you drive to Drukgyal Dzong 17 th century. If time permits visit farm house and overnight at hotel Paro.
Day 09: Departure
Early morning drive to the Paro Airport to catch your flight. Your Bhutan Travel Connection will escort to see you off at the airport.

Tour payment must be sent four weeks prior to date of arrival in Bhutan. The visa is issued by the Government of Bhutan subject to advance payment only.

Above mentioned rates are applicable to change without prior notice. The above mentioned packages are LAND ONLY but will include a daily itinerary, all Bhutanese Government Visa Fees, Taxes and Royalty. Accommodation will be in tourist hotels on a full board basis throughout the tour.( with exception of the drinks) entrée fees, airport and tour transportation will be included as well as a qualified English speaking guide accompanying you during the whole duration of the tour. In case another speaking guide will be needed a surcharge will be applicable.
